| July 23rd 2006. After a novel night it Kosice involving, at one stage, a bearded gay bar called 'Viking Pub', SCR take a sunflower-packed rural route to the Ukrainian border. Officials are amused by the CliveCab, and up to nine of them sort through everything it contains in search of narcotics and are visually disappointed when they fail to find any. The home-made fuel tank attracts much attention. Once in the Ukraine, directions are asked of an excellent local who takes 20 minutes to draw a map of what turns out to be a 5-minute route. SCR bask in the Stalinist excellence of Hotel Zakarpattya, which is like sleeping in a Soviet modernism exhibition. They befriend an amazingly personable group of Ukrainians, who lead a drunken crusade throughout the city of Uzhhorod. SCR must now cheese it like bald men through the Ukraine to get some serious distance under their belts. |
