July 28th 2006. SCR leave the hostel, which now looks far less hostile, and reach the Russian border by 11am. The crossing takes six hours, and sees Sam and Rich bouncing from hut-to-hut like confused pin-balls, but the officials are friendly and the processes inexpensive. They pass the time working on the SCR arm-waving, miming and shouting Russian communication device, and chatting more conventionally with members of a Rome-Peking rally whose shiny machinery puts the CC to shame.

In Russia, they drive to beyond Krasnoden, point the CC away from the road, and camp in the middle of nowhere, which looks like Dartmoor only bigger.

Meanwhile, Team Brick and Team Tony arrive in Russia from Turkey (via ferry), and Team Skip Rates catch their flight to Kazakhstan.
