July 30th 2006. Gleb and his friend Jenia, another good egg of the highest order, lead SCR on a tour of Volgograd, encompassing Mamai Mound, the Museum of the Defence of Stalingrad, the Volga itself, and various hostelries in between. The museum with its amazing panoramic painting of wartime Stalingrad is a real eye-opener, and Mamai Mound's 102m tall statue of Mother Russia is surreally large.

After an evening siesta which SCR spend grappling with Cyrillic computers, they reconvene at the White Horse (the distinctly English rock bar of the previous night) for extended carousing, joined by Jenia's girlfriend Ksenia.

Gleb and Jenia: A million thanks for your hospitality. You are both true heroes of Volgograd!
