| July 31st 2006. SCR return from a breakfast of unusually high fish content to find Gleb waiting at their room with cameraman attached. He puts together a news item for his television station MTB, to be aired later in the day. Result! SCR are on Russian television! They make their good-byes at mid-day and drive to within 100km of Saratov, camping in a gently picturesque valley. The CC's bonnet catch retires on a 50mph road section, causing the panel to forcibly wrap itself around the roof-rack, which fortunately saves the windscreen. The battered item is relocated with string and hammering, further adding to the CC's weathered appearance. An accidental 20km off-road excursion sees an end to the rusted seams around the vehicle's LH front wing, calling for much gaffer tape to prevent headlight loss, and also coats everything inside the cab with a thick layer of dust. Just half-an-hour in the CC can now turn any unfortunate item/occupant from 'clean' to 'brown'. |
