August 4th 2006. An early start sees SCR quickly though Ufa and into the Ural mountains. Constant rain pleases the CC, helping to keep it cool under the collar on the long uphill sections, although the dryness of its occupants is heavily compromised. They are pulled over once for overtaking in a 'no overtaking' zone (Russian drivers note inverted commas), but Sam waives the $50 fine by shouting 'thief' repeatedly at the GUI officer, as it turns out, incorrectly. They forge through some forest paths and camp in an isolated glade next to a hollow hay stack which they later drunkenly worry about being a bear house. It rains all night and morning, and there are strange industrial noises close-by.
